1978 Central American and Caribbean Games

The 1978 Central American and Caribbean Games were held in Medellin, Colombia from July 6 through July 22, 1978.
Cuba dominated the event, going 10-0. In their win over Puerto Rico, they set team records with 31 runs, 32 hits, 30 RBI, 7 doubles and 11 homers with a 31-2 laughrer. Antonio Muñoz hit a record .714 in the event while Pedro Jose Rodriguez (.556) set records with 23 runs, 15 homers and 37 RBI. Armando Capiro (.614) also scored 23 and had a record 27 hits. Luis Casanova tied for the lead with 5 doubles. Rogelio García (3-0, 4.50) and Carlos Oliva (3-0, 2.25) tied for the best record.
Nicaragua won Silver at 9-3. J. Moya had a 0.75 ERA to lead the Games.
Puerto Rico won Bronze, going 7-5 and faring okay despite their 31-2 defeat against Cuba. O. Valentin led the tournament in strikeouts.
Dominican Republic went 5-7, as did
Venezuela. A. Llenas of the Dominicans tied for the most doubles (5). R. Colin of Venezuela worked the most innings (27) while M. Gonzalez tied for the lead in triples (2).
Colombia was 3-9 as the host. G. Villegas tied for the most triples, with 2.
Netherlands Antilles finished last at 1-9 despite not playing Cuba once. D. Abrahams tied for the most triples (2) while H. Jones stole the most bases (3).
