The nephew of one of the greatest Aruban southpaws ever, Richard Orman, Conrad Orman debuted in the US with a much bigger splash than had his uncle.
Orman signed with the Baltimore Orioles at age 17 in 2004. He was 4-5 with a 3.57 ERA in the 2005 Venezuelan Summer League. He also pitched that year with the Konica Minolta Pioniers, relieving his veteran uncle in his exhibition debut on April 3. He walked 7 batters in 3 1/3 IP for the Pioniers that year, going 0-1 with a 8.10 ERA.
In 2006, Conrad was 6-2 with a 2.57 ERA in Venezuela, finishing 10th in the VSL in ERA. He walked 21 while striking out 85 in 70 innings. In Hoofdklasse in 2006, the teenager had a 2.00 ERA in two starts and no decisions in the regular year. He returned for the playoffs and lost a game, allowing 3 runs in 4 1/3 IP. He still got the call in game one of the 2006 Holland Series and beat Kinheim, allowing 2 runs in 6 2/3 IP despite 8 hits. Kinheim went on to win the Series.
Orman spent all of 2007 in the USA and was far better than his uncle had been in the Pioneer League 18 years earlier. Conrad went 8-2 for the GCL Orioles, though his ERA was 4.97. He led the Gulf Coast League in victories that season.
