Pitcher Geno Espineli had been named to the US Olympic Baseball team to take part in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, but was called up to the San Francisco Giants a few days later to replace Keiichi Yabu in the Giants' bullpen and was replaced on the Team USA roster. He made his major league debut on July 20 with a scoreless inning against the Milwaukee Brewers. He then earned his first Major League win in his next outing against the Washington Nationals on July 23.
