[edit] Biographical Information

On January 28, 1967 Mike Adams was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the first round (2nd pick) of the 1967 amateur draft (second phase). He spent the rest of this season with the class A Florida State League Lakeland Tigers. The infielder appeared in 77 games, had 253 at bats, 61 hits, including 6 home runs for a .241 average. Mike would ply his trade in the minors until he got a brief look at major league ball with the 1972 Minnesota Twins. He appeared in 3 games and went 2 for 6 at the tail end of the season. Adams was with the 1973 Twins again, getting in 55 games with 66 AB, mostly as a pinch hitter. He did hit 3 HR but only had a .212 BA.

Adams was with the PCL Tacoma Twins in 1974 where he hit 12 home runs and hit for a .307 batting average. He showed up in 1975 with the AAA Wichita Aeros and again hit 13 dingers and had a .308 BA.

Mike had been traded to the Chicago Cubs by the 1974 Twins and appeared with the 1976 Cubs in 25 games and hit only .138. He also appeared with the Wichita Aeros in 1976 hitting .304 in 36 games. The 1977 Cubs had Mike in for 2 games and 2 at bats and he spent the rest of the season with the Wichita Aeros, again, this time he appeared in 120 games, had 371 at bats, 119 hits, including 23 home runs and hit .321.

The Oakland Athletics purchased Adams from the Chicago Cubs for an undisclosed amount on April 1, 1978 and he only got into 15 games with 15 at bats, getting 3 hits for a .200 average and this was to be his last time as an active big leaguer. He headed out to the PCL again where he hooked up with the Vancouver Canadians for 68 games and 222 at bats with 65 hits for a .293 average.

Adams had spent 11 years in and out of the minors and majors in a very up and down way. His major league stats show him appearing in 100 games with 118 at bats with 23 hits, of which only 3 where home runs, and a career .195 batting average. His minor league numbers where considerably better. He appeared in 958 games with 3003 at bats, 880 hits,including 113 home runs and a .289 batting average.

Mike primarily wore number 25.

He is the son of Bobby Adams and nephew of Dick Adams.

It is belived that Adams played a season or part of one, possibly around 1969, with the Cardenales de Lara team of the Venezuelan Baseball League, as the baseball card here shows. However as of this writing there is no verifiable statistical information available for substantiation.
